Protection of Health Information

Privacy Act: Applies to all of the personal information the federal government collects, uses and discloses. Gives individuals the right to access and request correction of personal information held by federal government institutions.

Access to Information Act: Extends the present laws of Canada to provide a right of access to information in records under the control of a government institution in accordance with the principles that government information should be available to the public.

Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA): Sets out the ground rules for how private sector businesses must handle personal information in the course of commercial activity.
