Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module the learner will be able to:
- Delineate what constitutes personal health information
- Define and differentiate informational privacy and security
- Explain why there is an increased risk to informational privacy and security with the use of ICTs
- Identify nurses’ responsibilities and the standards that guide & inform nurses’ professional obligations for maintaining the privacy and security of personal health information
- Describe the various types of legislation that govern the protection of health information in Canada
- Identify potential risks associated with the use of technology
- Discuss the professional obligation of nurses to report system errors and/or failures
