Recommendations for all nurses:
Responsibility and Accountability
- Practice in accordance with relevant legislation, nursing scope of practice, professional standards, and organizational policies for e-prescribing.
- Engage in continual learning that promotes optimal and consistent use of the digital health solutions that allow e-prescribing.
- Report and advocate for the resolution of errors or issues with the e-prescribing system, recognizing the legal and ethical risk of using work arounds.
- Engage in training and planning for a system outage, and respond appropriately in the event that e-prescribing is not available.
- Participate in a collaborative intra and interprofessional dialogue to understand their roles and responsibilities related to e-prescribing.
- Adhere to security, privacy, and confidentiality measures in place during the e-prescribing process.
