E-Prescribing Guidelines for Canadian Nurses

Recommendations for all nurses:

Client-Centred Care

  • Inform the client when e-prescribing is in use, and document the client’s pharmacy of choice.
  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities of health care professionals and the client related to e-prescribing.
  • Review the client’s information in the EMR to ensure it is accurate, complete, and up to date in order to support full functioning of e-prescribing clinical decision support tools.
  • Review the plan of care with the client, and offer prescription information in the form of a prescription receipt.
