Due to the rapid evolution of technology in health care and society, there are a range of emergent directions related to ICT that are important for nurses to both appreciate. The increased use of Internet-related technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other genomic-based health care approaches are topics of growing importance as related to health care ICT and nursing (Archibald & Barnard, 2018; Booth, 2016).

While many of these newer types of ICT have yet to fully diffuse in health care, their growing popularity and functionality has stimulated new insights and opportunities for nurses and patients.
