Challenges of ICT in Health Care

Although there are many benefits related to the use of ICT in health care, there are other challenges that can occur when these forms of technology are introduced or used within practice environments.

  • Various aspects related to the therapeutic relationship that may change or evolve (Almerud et al., 2008)
  • Difficulties with ICT and its related adoption and use, which can result in extra related work burden on nurses
  • Finding a balance between technological driven care, and humanistic driven care has been an ongoing concern of some practitioners and researchers (O’Keefe-McCarthy, 2009)
  • Rapid evolution of technology that can make various platforms obsolete in a matter of years
